Ignorance and Disrespect
I hate a lot of people, but the people I hate most are ignorant and disrespectful people.
In the wake of the tsunami, the generosity of nations from all around the world is pouring into relief foundations and so on, but just because people are donating, does that make them kind hearted? Does it show they're compassion? After you read this I'll let you be the judge.
On Friday, January 7, 2005 my Catholic school set a plan into action to rake in money for Asia. Did they start a charity where people willingly bring in money? No. What they did was offer a 'Civis' Day, which means we can wear civilian clothing to school so long as we pay two dollars. They shouldn't have to bribe people with civis days, it's just pathetic. Then when I was walking down the hall, I saw this poster.
On this poster read the words, "LETS SEND THEM A TSU-MONEY" with a tsunami of money crashing against a shore while a woman stands there smiling. I know what it means, but that is totally dis-tasteful and almost makes a joke of what happened. I asked 5 teachers there opinion and they all agreed with me and wondered why they were allowed to put it up. To this day I have yet to find out, so to prove my point I made my own poster. On my poster it said, "Let's send them a tsu-disrespectful posters" with a tsunami of posters heading towards a beach. I put my poster up right beneath the dis-tasteful one and left. The next day at lunch, these girls come up to me and rip my poster up in front of my face then stomp on it and laugh saying as they walked off, "How sick and stupid!" So I came to the conclusion that those girls are completely ignorant bitches. Then I made another poster and laminated it to the wall at lunch. When I was leaving some guy came up to me and said, "Did you make this?" pointing at my poster which had been torn from the wall. I quickly denied saying, "Nope" because the guy is a lot bigger than me. He keeps asking I keep saying no until my friend walks by and says, "Hey Phill, someone ripped down your poster." Then the guy was like, "This is disgusting, your sick!" So I was just like... ok. I just left because the guy was obviously fucking retarded.
THEN, when I was walking home with a friend he was like, "I don't understand why you care so much, it's only a poster" and I said to him, "A poster that is disrespectful and basically pokes fun at the whole crisis," and he said, "How? It's just a poster of a tidal wave of money," and I said, "EXACTLY," to that he said, "Well I don't even care anyway, stupid Asians should deal with there own problems. I don't care about them and there problems, I only care about myself. They should've run from it or something," At this point I decided my friend is one of those obviously fucking retarded people who are ignorant. He donated money that day, so did the majority of the school. 600 students donated $1000+ dollars, which is pretty cool for the people in the disaster area, but the fact remains, the people who donated, only donated for the civis day. They don't give a damn about Asia, they're self-centered assholes. I'm sure there are some people who care, but not enough to notice.
So, what is your desicion.
